Bulletin - 30th March

Hi all,
There's been a real flurry of work being shared via email recently - huge thanks to everyone!

A Question of Words
Students performed admirably in the heats of this competition, and 16 have been selected to visit the Playhouse this coming weds afternoon. I'll send the names around and let you know the details tomorrow.

GCSE coursework
Please make sure that missing coursework is in this week. If any are particularly struggling, let me know and I'll see about getting them off timetable on Weds am, but this is obviously disruptive on the rest of their lessons so we'll avoid if poss. I am also available to supervise finishing coursework on Weds after school in J3 and on the first Tuesday of the holidays (also J3), but please try to get work from students before resorting to this!

Tony
Tony Marshall will be leaving us on Thurs as his placement has been moved to another school. He's been a fantastic intern and will be sadly missed!

Once again, thanks to everyone for your work this term - what you do really makes a difference to students' lives.

Have a good week,
Tom

Bulletin- 23rd March

Hi all,

Hope everyone has had a restful weekend and is enjoying the sunshine!

Dept meeting on Tues this week:
c26
3.15 - 4.15

Munaza Dogar is due to lead a session on preparing students for GCSE English Language for all teaching staff except KS5 Media Studies teachers.

Media Meeting
- JKy, PHa and TBo are spending this time meeting in C5 re KS5 Media Studies

Coursework:
- GCSE Coursework cover sheets are available on the central desk in the English office - please take what you need. Our moderation day has been approved for 21st April, which is the first Tuesday back. Minimum requirements for then are that the front sheets are filled in and the folders signed by staff and students. We don't need to fill in all the details of speaking and listening / oral assessments - marks only in these sections are fine at the moment. However, if you want to fill these bits in that's no problem, of course.

A Question of Words
- This event is happening on Weds - thanks to all those who've passed me names. I can't actually sort the lists out as planned as the school email is having one of its many weekends off - maybe it's taken advantage of the sunny weather to go to the coast - so I'll have to get the lists sorted on monday and let the kids know then or on tues.

Dept Drinks and Meal
Social whirlwind Liz Watkins is organising drinks and a meal for Friday night to celebrate the impending end of a busy term - please email her if you are up for it.

Thanks to all for your very hard work in what has been a busy term - light at the end of the tunnel with exam classes now!

Bulletin 16th March

Hi all,

This week:

Year 11
C/D Borderliners: Munaza Dogar in p3/4 to work with selected C/D borderliners (approx 30), so expect some students to be missing from your lessons. I'll email the list around ASAP.
Coursework: Please let me have an update via email of any students who are still missing coursework - SOK is organising a catch-up day (poss in exam conditions) so if I could know ASAP that would be very helpful.

Shakespeare: Aldyth has kindly sorted out some fab looking ideas for active approaches to Shakespeare (specifically R and J), which I'll send around via email.

A Question of Words:
Thanks to all who've sent me names for this. We still have plenty of space for students to take part from years 7-10, so please remind classes and let me know of any likely candidates.

Have a good week everyone - I'm glad to be back!
Tom

Dept Review review

Hi everyone,

Thanks to everyone for your hard work in preparing for last week's dept review - I hear that it went very well. Everything going well here with the baby doing well (although not quite grasping the idea that night is for sleeping!). Visitors welcome if anyone wants a closer look...

Liz will be in touch regarding this week's meeting on Tuesday.

Have a great week,

Tom

Edward Peter Boulter!

Here he is, born Sunday at 4.56 and weighing 8lb exactly. Quite a quick labour, mother and child doing well!
Have a good week everyone - I'm sure I'll be in at some point.
