3. End-of-year exams

English, Maths and Science are holding end-of-year exams for Years 7-10. For English, please hold your KS3 exams in lesson times during the following weeks:

Year 7+8: w/c Mon 20th June

Year 9: w/c Mon 27th June

All the resources, including the exam papers, are on Staff Resources: T:\Staff Resources\English\KS3\Key Stage 3 summer exams

The Year 10 English Language exam will take place on Tues 5th July, P1-2. Please hold the English Literature exam in your own class time.

4. New staff induction

Simon Gunter, Bradley Knott and Kelly Griffiths will all be in school on Monday for the whole-school staff induction. As part of this, they will spend P3 and P4 in the dept, so shall we all have lunch together? We'll us my room rather than the dept office so that nobody dies of asbestos inhalation.

5. Dept office
I have a meeting with Chris Honey, the new Site Manager, and Hugh Nelson to discuss the situation with the Dept Office. I'll let you know the outcome of that meeting asap.

4. KS5 Leader position

Please be aware that we are advertising for a new KS5 Leader position. Please refer to Undine's recent email for more details. This is being advertised internally, including all the new candidates who will be starting with us in September.

5. Other recruitment

We are in the process of advertising for an HLTA to work as an English Department Pupil Premium Champion next year. We are also investigating hiring Sixth Form students to help run an after-school homework club.

4: Visitor: Caroline Kenny

Please be aware that Caroline Kenny will be joining the dept for two weeks in advance of starting her PGCE in September. I'll re-send her timetable so that people are aware of when they can expect her in their classroom.

5. Recruitment

We are in the process of recruiting TWO more English Teachers for September. We have three candidates coming in on Monday and we will be conducting Skype interviews with some overseas candidates over the course of the week.

6. INSET day: Friday 10th June

The schedule for the INSET day on Friday is:

8.30-9.00 Breakfast in canteen + Tea and coffee all morning in the canteen

9.00-12.15 Department development time – in department areas

12.15-1.00 Lunch in canteen

1.00-1.30 UCAS (DGi) – all Yr 12 teachers in J37

1.30-2.30 Colleges – all tutors + HOYs – Heads of Year will let Tutors know where to be/ SLT meeting – Green Room.

All our new staff for September will be joining us and the departmental focus in the morning will be on curriculum planning for 2016-17.
